Duties and Responsibilities for Church Officers
All Elected Officers must be members of Plymouth UCC for one year, unless otherwise specified. All Elected Officers are expected to faithfully attend regularly scheduled meetings.
Moderator – Officially calls and presides over all church membership and church council meetings.
Vice Moderator – Carries out the duties of the Moderator in his/her absence.
Clerk – Maintains an accurate record of the proceedings of annual church council meetings.
Assistant Clerk – Carries out the duties of the Clerk in his/her absence.
Historian – Maintains an up-to-date history of Plymouth UCC and produces a summary report of yearly activities at the annual meeting.
Treasurer – Receives and records all monies for deposit as prescribe by the Board of Trustees. Report to the trustee Board with accurate accounting of all funds, and has voice and vote at Trustee Board meetings.
Assistant Treasurer – Carries out the duties of the Treasurer in his/her absence. The Asst. Treasurer shall also serve as a member of the Board of Trustees with voice and vote when the Treasurer is not present.
Deacon Board (must be a member of PUCC for two years) – Counsels and assists the Ministers in matters pertaining to the spiritual life of the church. Assists Ministers with orientation programs for church members and candidates. Prepares and serves sacraments. Visits sick and shut-in persons on First Sunday and as needed (One additional member shall be a youth under 20).
Board for Christian Education (must be a member of Plymouth UCC for two years) – Develops and implements religious education programs for the entire church. Advises, coordinates and assists in implementing religious education activities for youth and adults (One additional member shall be a youth under 20).
Council Members at Large – The responsibilities of the Church Council shall be to provide input on the whole mission of the church and to advise the Minister(s) regarding the general direction of the church’s activities (Must have a minimum of two (2) years in good standing).
Metropolitan Association Delegates – Faithfully represent the church at all officially called meetings of the Detroit Metropolitan Association, attend Annual Meeting of the Michigan Conference and Biennial Synod of the United Church of Christ.
Nominating Committee – Comprises, investigates and screens all names submitted for church elective positions.
Trustee Board (must be a member of Plymouth UCC for two years) – Abiding by and subject to the laws of the State of Michigan and the church Constitution and By-laws, administers the financial affairs of Plymouth UCC (One additional member shall be a youth under 20).
Property Maintenance – Informs Trustee Board of building and maintenance needs, oversees implementation of approved projects, monitors expenditures for capital improvements and proposes prioritized agenda for completion of identified projects.
